A Silk Laundry Travel Diary
Photographer: Sara Guerrero
Founder & Creative Director: Katie Kolodinski
I set off from Barcelona to Venice with just seven essential Silk Laundry pieces and a single carry-on. This trip wasn't just about exploring a new city; it was about embracing the art of travelling light and demonstrating the true versatility of silk.
I've always believed in a well-curated wardrobe that transitions effortlessly from day to night, regardless of the destination. With just a few select pieces, I moved easily from casual daytime strolls through Venice's winding streets to intimate dinners by the canal. Silk proved to be the perfect travel companion - lightweight, comfortable and easy to wear from morning through to evening

48 Hours in Venice

DAY 1
After settling into my hotel, Ca' Vendramin Zago, I spent the afternoon wandering through Venice's hidden corners, discovering boutiques and artisan shops brimming with inspiration. One particular highlight was G. Benevento snc Venezia, a textile store filled with old Venetian brocades and haberdashery.
Just across the street, I stumbled upon a shop selling handmade Venetian shoes crafted from those same beautiful brocade fabrics - a reminder of the city's enduring craftsmanship.
In the evening, I unwound with dinner at Bepi Antica 54. With a few simple adjustments - swapping sandals for heels, tying up my hair and adding statement jewellery - my 1996 Dress transitioned effortlessly from day to evening. The Venetian black squid ink pasta was a must-try, and the strawberry panna cotta was simply divine.

DAY 2
I started the day with breakfast at a local bakery before exploring the islands of Murano and Burano. Murano's centuries-old glass-blowing traditions were fascinating, while Burano's colourful houses and lace-making heritage provided endless inspiration.
Lunch at Trattoria Al Gatto Nero was a highlight, combining incredible food with one of the most memorable settings of the trip. The simplicity of silk felt perfectly at home amongst Venice's rich history and craftsmanship.
As evening approached, I wandered through Piazza San Marco before dinner at Trattoria Do Forni. Later, I returned to the hotel for a quiet shoot, capturing the relaxed, understated spirit of Silk Laundry. These are the moments I love most—simple, honest and reflective of how our pieces are designed to be worn.

DAY 3
Venice's art scene is unlike anywhere else, and ending the trip at the Biennale felt like the perfect finale. Walking through the galleries always reminds me how creativity can be found in the smallest details, and I left feeling inspired for future collections.
A visit to Museum Fortuny was another highlight, deepening my appreciation for the history of textiles and reinforcing my connection to silk and craftsmanship.
Travelling with only a handful of Silk Laundry pieces reaffirmed something I've always believed: silk is the ideal companion. It adapts to changing climates, packs beautifully and transitions effortlessly between occasions.
This trip to Venice reminded me why silk remains at the heart of everything we do—it's versatile, enduring and designed to be lived in.
